{"id":333327,"date":"2024-11-26T11:31:04","date_gmt":"2024-11-26T15:31:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/?p=333327"},"modified":"2024-11-26T12:30:42","modified_gmt":"2024-11-26T16:30:42","slug":"francis-says-he-supports-uwp-lawsuit-open-to-working-with-linton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/homepage\/homepage-carousel\/francis-says-he-supports-uwp-lawsuit-open-to-working-with-linton\/","title":{"rendered":"Francis says he supports UWP lawsuit; open to working with Linton"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_333328\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-333328\" style=\"width: 642px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-333328 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Attorney-Joshua-Francis.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"642\" height=\"619\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-333328\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Joshua Francis<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Member of the United Progressive Party (UPP) Attorney Joshua Francis said he is in full support of the United Workers Party&#8217;s (UWP) decision\u00a0to take legal action against the Government of Dominica\u00a0as it relates to the Citizenship By Investment (CBI) Program.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent interview on Q-95\u2019s Talk on the Block Program, Francis acknowledged that while under the leadership of Lennox Linton, the UWP\u00a0 brought scrutiny to this topic for several years. A move that he sees as justifiable since the CBI has been the cornerstone of Dominica&#8217;s economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccording to recent data almost 2 1\/3 of the government&#8217;s revenue is now generated from the CBI Program,\u201d Francis said. \u201cAnd it is clear, it is undeniable that a significant amount of that money generated from the CBI Program is not in Dominica, it is not under parliamentary oversight, it is unaccounted for and the struggle to get transparency and openness in that program is desirous and I support Mr. Linton in that regard and \u00a0I will continue to support him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senior Counsel and Former Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago Anand Ramlogan and his team are leading the case.<\/p>\n<p>During a press conference held in September 2024, Ramlogan said he sees the case as one that is important for not only Dominica but the region.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the intention is to ask the government to disclose a copy of the agreement for the program, \u201cand between the government and its agents we intend to ask to see the terms and conditions of that contract because there have been public admissions and statements of fraudulent practices within that program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to that, he mentioned that the case is constructed based on the Dominican constitution, on the principle that all monies and revenues earned by the government are meant to be paid into the consolidated fund which is subject to examination by parliament, and approval for any form of expenditure.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Counsel Ramlogan and his team believe that the expenditure of any funds should only be derived from that consolidated fund.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, despite the issues faced in the past between Francis and Linton, Francis said he is no enemy to Mr. Linton.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do not have Mr. Linton in my heart, I don\u2019t have time to have people in my heart in that regard,\u201d he stated. \u201cMy heart doesn\u2019t have any corner for hate, for jealousy, for envy, for grudges.\u00a0If I don\u2019t have good in my heart for a human being I prefer not to have anything for that human being.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Francis made it clear that whatever differences he and Mr. Linton have had, they have worked together in the past and that he is still capable of working with anybody, including Mr. Linton.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is for Mr.Linton to decide whether he is prepared and willing to work with Joshua Francis in the interest of the ordinary persons in Dominica,\u201d Francis noted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Member of the United Progressive Party (UPP) Attorney Joshua Francis said he is in full support of the United Workers Party&#8217;s (UWP) decision\u00a0to take legal action against the Government of Dominica\u00a0as it relates to the Citizenship By Investment (CBI) Program&#8230;.","protected":false},"author":13,"featured_media":333328,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_cbd_carousel_blocks":"[]","footnotes":""},"categories":[235,9,12],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-333327","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-homepage-carousel","category-news","category-politics"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Francis says he supports UWP lawsuit;
