The Duke of Edinburgh\u2019s International Award Dominica is set to celebrate the achievements of its participants at the upcoming Award Pinning Ceremony, a significant event within the context of this esteemed youth-oriented training program. The event will take place on December 14, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. in the Public Service Union Conference Room, where participants who have successfully earned their Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards, along with volunteer leaders, will be honored.<\/p>\n
This distinguished program, aimed at young people aged 14 to 24, is centered around four key areas: skills development, physical recreation, community service, and adventurous journeys. It offers youth an opportunity for self-development through a structured series of activities, designed to equip them for life regardless of their background, culture, or physical ability. The Award is not a competition but a personal challenge, encouraging young individuals to push their boundaries and recognize their own achievements at three increasingly difficult levels.<\/p>\n
Having been established in Dominica since 1968, the Duke of Edinburgh\u2019s Award has a storied history, though it has occasionally experienced periods of dormancy. Under the guidance of the National Executive, there is a renewed commitment to revitalize the program across the island. Efforts to promote and raise awareness of the Award are currently underway in secondary schools, youth cadet corps, and various uniformed groups. Presently, there are four active community chapters\u2014Petite Soufri\u00e8re, Grand Fond, Roseau, and the Kalinago Territory\u2014dedicated to fostering participation in the program.<\/p>\n
As the Award Pinning Ceremony approaches, anticipation builds for a meaningful gathering that will acknowledge the hard work and dedication of young individuals who have taken on the challenges presented by the Duke of Edinburgh\u2019s International Award.
