CEO Hafsah Abdulsalam has reiterated LIAT\u2019s dedication to enhancing air travel within the Caribbean. She stressed the importance of reducing travel costs and taxes, noting that the current prices impede connectivity between the islands.<\/p>\n
Following the inaugural flight to Trinidad and Tobago, Abdulsalam communicated to the press that lowering these expenses could entice more travelers from the islands and eventually yield higher revenue than the taxes levied.<\/p>\n
She pointed out an example where a $65 ticket came with taxes that were nearly double or triple the ticket price, emphasizing the burden this poses on travelers. While acknowledging that immediate solutions are not feasible, Abdulsalam reaffirmed her commitment to making travel more economical, which could lead to increased travel activity and improved revenue for the governments involved.<\/p>\n
Additionally, Abdulsalam tackled the former negative perception of LIAT, which was once humorously referred to as \u201cLeave Islands Any Time.\u201d She redefined this idea, highlighting that the revamped LIAT, now under new management and branding, aims to empower travelers with better control over their schedules.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur commitment to timeliness and service will ensure we deliver reliably,\u201d she promised.<\/p>\n
Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan also commented on LIAT\u2019s role in the regional air travel landscape, emphasizing Trinidad and Tobago\u2019s significance as a Caribbean hub. He noted that LIAT\u2019s establishment signifies unity and resilience within the Caribbean.
