Antiguans and Barbudans living in St Peter are gearing up for a by-election carded for January 14.<\/p>\n

This week, the political landscape in Antigua and Barbuda has become increasingly vibrant as both major parties\u2014the Antigua Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) and the United Progressive Party (UPP)\u2014have ramped up their grassroots efforts in preparation for the upcoming by-election.<\/p>\n

Candidates representing these two prominent parties were officially nominated.<\/p>\n

The by-election came as a result of the brutal killing of Asot Michael, the former MP for St Peter.<\/p>\n

The ABLP has put forth former Senator Rawdon Turner as its candidate, bringing with him a strong connection to the community. On the other side, the United Progressive Party has nominated George Wehner, who has garnered attention for his dedication to the party and his hardworking nature, as emphasized by UPP Political Leader Jamale Pringle.<\/p>\n

The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) took to their social media platforms to confirm that both nominations adhered to all necessary legal requirements, assuring a fair and transparent process.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in a separate development, Nigel Bascus from the Missing Link Party embarked on the nomination process as well; however, he was unable to meet the legal threshold of securing the minimum ten supporters to qualify for candidacy.<\/p>\n

As the political climate heats up, all eyes will be on these key figures and their efforts to sway the electorate.<\/p>\n
