{"id":334884,"date":"2025-01-03T17:00:54","date_gmt":"2025-01-03T21:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/?p=334884"},"modified":"2025-01-03T17:00:54","modified_gmt":"2025-01-03T21:00:54","slug":"ongoing-water-development-project-at-critical-stage-of-physical-works-announces-dowasco-gm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/homepage\/homepage-carousel\/ongoing-water-development-project-at-critical-stage-of-physical-works-announces-dowasco-gm\/","title":{"rendered":"Ongoing water development project at critical stage of physical works, announces DOWASCO GM"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_334885\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-334885\" style=\"width: 642px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-334885\" src=\"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Bernard-Ettinoffe.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"642\" height=\"967\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-334885\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bernard Ettinoffe<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">General Manager of the Dominica Water and Sewerage Company Limited (DOWASCO), Bernard Ettinoffe has announced that the company is nearing the physical implementation phase of the water sector strategic development project which has been in the making for quite some time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This, he said, forms part of DOWASCO\u2019s major priorities for 2025.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe are nearing now the actual physical implementation works,\u201d he said while speaking on State-Owned Radio DBS. \u201cWe have ordered the pipes and fittings necessary for sub-projects, that is in Castle Bruce, Calibishie, Morne Rachette, Grand Savanne, Salisbury, Grand Fond, Morne Jaune, Rivi\u00e8re Cyrique.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Ettinoffe, DOWASCO has signed the contract with the pipe supplier and the first payment has been made to them, \u201cand we can expect to begin receiving pipes by the end of January 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe have finalized negotiations with the consultant, have overseen the implementation of the physical works to build those new systems,\u201d he explained. \u201cThat contract is complete and should be signed hopefully this week, and so the consultant will be in place from January.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, he stated that DOWASCO is putting together \u00a0teams to begin execution of,\u00a0 \u201cthe running of the pipes, the building of the intakes\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSome of those works will be subcontracted and we will be inviting contractors to tender to implement those works very early in 2025,\u201d Ettinoffe stated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He mentioned that all of these works are expected to be completed in 2026.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He said the Ministry of Finance has been supporting DOWASCO in accessing funds through the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), \u201cand so we are very pleased that is now starting off in earnest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, he revealed that DOWASCO has an ongoing project in the Paix Bouche area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThat is going steadily, it&#8217;s on course to be completed within 2 or 3 months&#8217; time.,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd our Water Area 1 project that started several years ago should be completed by the end of March 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Etinoffe added, \u201cVery few things left to be done there, among those things is connecting the new intake to the existing one and completing the filtration process and so forth.
