{"id":335067,"date":"2025-01-09T11:20:41","date_gmt":"2025-01-09T15:20:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/?p=335067"},"modified":"2025-01-09T14:23:28","modified_gmt":"2025-01-09T18:23:28","slug":"revenue-for-first-half-of-2024-25-fiscal-year-exceeds-that-of-previous-says-pm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/homepage\/homepage-carousel\/revenue-for-first-half-of-2024-25-fiscal-year-exceeds-that-of-previous-says-pm\/","title":{"rendered":"Revenue for first half of 2024-25 fiscal year exceeds that of previous, says PM"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_335068\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-335068\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-335068\" src=\"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/PM-Skerrit-speaking-during-a-special-interview-on-DBS-Radio-642x296.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"295\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-335068\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PM Skerrit speaking during a special interview on DBS Radio<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has asserted that with respect to the economy, Dominica\u2019s revenue for the first six months of the financial year 2024-2025 has improved.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He made the announcement during a special interview on State-Owned Radio DBS on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIn respect to the economy our revenue for the first six months of the financial year for 2024-2025 is better than the same period of 2023-2024,\u201d he revealed. \u201cSo our revenues are doing much better in this financial year so far than it did in the previous financial year, which is a sign that money is being spent in the economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skerrit continued, \u201cWe have seen an increase in the corporate tax in Dominica, this is why we are looking in 2025&#8230;at addressing the corporate tax and maybe reducing it from what it is at 25 percent now to lower, so that we can keep more money in the private sectors at hand and we hope that they can invest more so that we can increase the tax base of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, he revealed that the government is also looking at a further review of the minimum wage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIn 2025 we are looking at the further review of the minimum wage so as to allow persons who are relying [on] the minimum wage payment schedule to be able to be given a better pay so that they would be in a better position to withstand the increase in the price of goods and services in Dominica,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The last adjustment to Dominica&#8217;s minimum wage occurred in September 2021.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the 2024\/25 Budget Address, the Government of Dominica announced the formation of a Public-Private Sector Committee aimed at addressing critical economic and social issues related to the minimum wage rate.
