The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy, in partnership with the International Society of Cannabis (ISC), is set to hold an \u201cIntroductory and Technical Workshop on the Regulatory and Economic Environment of the Cannabis Industry\u201d on January 30-31, 2025. The event will take place at the Roseau Fisheries Complex in Dominica, running from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM each day.<\/p>\n
According to information from the Ministry of Agriculture, this workshop aims to bring together 25 to 30 participants, including national representatives from various key ministries such as Agriculture, Environment, Finance, and Health. The focus will be on establishing the guiding principles and essential elements necessary for the development of a sustainable and viable medical cannabis industry in Dominica.<\/p>\n
With the cannabis industry rapidly evolving, the government recognizes this as both an exciting opportunity and a challenge. The overarching goal is to create a favorable environment for farmers and agro-entrepreneurs through institutional reforms, investments, and incentives. This includes developing high-value products and accessing lucrative cannabis markets.<\/p>\n
The Ministry emphasizes that the development of a medical cannabis sector must align with sustainable agricultural practices and modernization. Their vision encompasses quality primary production leading to value-added manufacturing, with significant indigenous ownership and a well-regulated industry environment.<\/p>\n
The government plans to host a National Symposium on Cannabis in March 2025 to further discuss the local cannabis industry\u2019s development. This technical workshop will facilitate technical discussions within the Public Service and lay the groundwork for future initiatives.<\/p>\n
The ISC, established in 2023 and headquartered in Germany, serves as a premier cannabis network in the Global South. It connects investors, policymakers, and professionals to spur transformative growth in emerging markets. Through educational initiatives and collaborative efforts, ISC advocates for a sustainable future, harnessing the potential of cannabis for health and wellness.<\/p>\n
The workshop will feature a diverse agenda, including technical overviews, policy briefs, and discussions on the legal, economic, social, and agricultural challenges facing the local cannabis industry.
