Today, Dominica joined the global community in observing World Cancer Day, embracing the theme “United by Unique.” Yvonne Alexander, President of the Dominica Cancer Society, emphasized the significance of this theme, which advocates for a people-centered approach to cancer care.<\/p>\n

“It’s more than just a medical diagnosis; it’s a deeply personal matter,” Alexander stated. She stressed that behind every diagnosis lies a unique human story, asserting that every individual’s experience with cancer is distinct.<\/p>\n

“It will take all of us united to create a world where we look beyond the disease and see the person before the patient,” she added.<\/p>\n

Alexander called for a shift in focus towards the needs of individuals and communities within health systems. She urged everyone\u2014patients, loved ones, caregivers, friends, practitioners, researchers, and advocates\u2014to play an active role in this campaign.<\/p>\n
