Inter-island ferry L’Express Des \u00celes has been forced to cancel its service to Guadeloupe, Dominica, Martinique, and St. Lucia due to rough seas.<\/p>\n
The cancellations take effect today, February 13, to Monday, February 17.<\/p>\n
Travelers have been asked to take note of the following:<\/p>\n
-Thursday, February 13: cancellation of the crossing from Guadeloupe to Dominica, Martinique and Saint Lucia.
\n-Friday, February 14: cancellation of the crossing from Saint Lucia to Martinique, Dominica and Guadeloupe
\n-Saturday, February 15: cancellation of the crossing from Guadeloupe to Dominica, Martinique and Saint Lucia.
\n-Sunday, February 16: cancellation of the crossing from Saint Lucia to Martinique, Dominica and Guadeloupe<\/p>\n
“We sincerely regret that the travel days and times of some passengers who have already booked and\/or even started their journey during this period may be modified,” the ferry said in announcing the change in schedule. “Please check your emails or SMS regularly, as change or cancellation notifications have been sent… We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by these completely involuntary changes.”<\/p>\n
The region has been buffeted by high winds and rough seas in the past few days which has been blamed on a high-pressure system.<\/p>\n
A weather bulletin by the Dominica Meteorological Service (Met Office) issued today, February 13, said windy conditions and rough seas will continue.<\/p>\n
“A high-pressure system will keep winds strong across the region in the coming days, bringing breezy to windy conditions,” it said. “Expect periods of cloudy skies with passing light to moderate scattered showers. Seas will be moderate to rough with waves reaching up to 12 feet along the northern, eastern, and southern coasts. The western coast may see waves near 7 feet. These conditions are expected to persist into the weekend.”<\/p>\n
The Met Office also stated that a small craft advisory is in effect for Dominica “or rough seas and strong winds.”<\/p>\n
