{"id":337341,"date":"2025-02-23T17:38:39","date_gmt":"2025-02-23T21:38:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/?p=337341"},"modified":"2025-02-23T17:38:39","modified_gmt":"2025-02-23T21:38:39","slug":"delices-village-councillor-loses-life-in-drowning-incident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/death\/delices-village-councillor-loses-life-in-drowning-incident\/","title":{"rendered":"Delices village councillor loses life in drowning incident"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_337342\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-337342\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-337342 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Abner-Etienne-Photo-credit-Delices-Village-Council-Facebook-page-e1740346427954-642x557.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"555\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-337342\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Abner Etienne Photo credit: Delices Village Council Facebook page<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Male resident of Delices, Abner Etienne, is dead following what is being described as a tragic drowning incident at sea in the Delices area on Saturday 22, February 2025.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to police reports, the lifeless body of Etienne was recovered by a\u00a0crew from the Dominica Coast Guard.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was medically declared dead by the district doctor and transported to a funeral home pending an autopsy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reports further stated that it appeared that Etienne was swept away at sea in distress, by a wave, whilst he was rock fishing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Etienne was a councillor on the Delices Village Council, leaving residents of Delices and fellow councillors to express deep sadness at his untimely passing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a Facebook post, the council noted that the tragic event that led to the loss of their beloved member has left the Delices Village Council devastated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u201cAs we grieve this terrible loss our hearts are broken. Councillor Abner Etienne was a sitting member of the Delices Village Council,\u201d the post said. \u201c His enthusiasm and passion at meetings to see Delices develop will surely be missed. Abner never hesitated to offer assistance to everyone in need in the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post continued, \u201c When it came to community projects and other activities he was the first one present. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends and the entire community of Delices. May we be comforted during this difficult time and may his soul rest in peace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The preliminary investigation by the district police suggests no foul play and the death seems to be related to a tragic drowning incident.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Male resident of Delices, Abner Etienne, is dead following what is being described as a tragic drowning incident at sea in the Delices area on Saturday 22, February 2025.
