Education Minister Octavia Alfred has implored students to avoid the use of alcohol during this year\u2019s Carnival celebrations.<\/p>\n
\u201cI take this opportunity to send a caution note to all of our students,\u201d she said via a statement. \u201cAn age-level characteristic of adolescents and teenagers is to feel invincible. You feel as if you are in control and this and that cannot ever happen to you. Therefore, I say to you during this season do not feel invincible, because anything that has happened to your friend or someone of your age can happen to you.\u201d<\/p>\n
She continued, \u201cThis season I want to say to you it is an occasion where there will be many temptations to indulge in the use of alcohol, but please avoid the use of alcohol at all costs.\u201d<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Alfred encouraged students to stay in control of their behaviour by avoiding alcohol, because “the use of alcohol affects your judgement and it will lead you to make poor decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n
She pointed out to students that there is no reason to carry weapons around.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis season play it safe and look out for your friends,\u201d Alfred urged. \u201cAlso be responsible, try to exercise healthy self–management.\u201d<\/p>\n
She also told students to exercise responsibility when it comes to their sexual behaviour.<\/p>\n
