{"id":338376,"date":"2025-03-13T14:47:36","date_gmt":"2025-03-13T18:47:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/?p=338376"},"modified":"2025-03-13T14:47:36","modified_gmt":"2025-03-13T18:47:36","slug":"no-bail-for-lehrer-on-firearms-charge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/homepage\/homepage-carousel\/no-bail-for-lehrer-on-firearms-charge\/","title":{"rendered":"No bail for Lehrer on firearms charge"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_338377\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-338377\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-338377 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Jonathan-Lehrer-DNO-file-photo-e1741891481427-642x1109.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"1106\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-338377\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jonathan Lehrer (in vehicle) being transported from court house<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Double murder accused Jonathan Lehrer, who was charged with the murder of Coulibri Ridge Eco-Resort owners Daniel Langlois and his partner Dominique Marchand\u00a0has been denied bail for trafficking firearms.<\/p>\n<p>He appeared before Magistrate Michael Laudat at a Roseau court on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>While handing down his decision, Magistrate Laudat told the court that the increase in crimes, due to the use of firearms and drug trafficking, is of serious concern.<\/p>\n<p>He stated further that the accused has not satisfied the requirements of section 4:3 of the Bail Act which states that a person who is charged with a serious offence or who has been previously convicted of an offence punishable by imprisonment, is not entitled to bail as of right and shall not be granted bail unless that person satisfies the court that there is just cause for doing so in all the circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>Laudat also noted that trafficking of firearms carries a heavy penalty if one is found guilty of the offense.<\/p>\n<p>In quoting section 7:1 d. of the Bail Act he said regarding any offence under the Firearms Act, 2011 punishable by a term of imprisonment of 5 years or more; the court shall not grant bail to that defendant unless it is satisfied that appropriate circumstances exist to justify the granting of bail.<\/p>\n<p>On January 15, 2025, Lehrer was charged with trafficking firearms and unlawfully importing 1 Mac 11- 9MM Threaded barrel, 144 9X19 MM ammunition, IWI 25 rounds capacity 9MM Magazine; 3 IWI 32 rounds capacity 9MM magazine, 3 Glock 9MM 15 rounds capacity magazine and 3 Glock 9MM 10 rounds capacity magazine.<\/p>\n<p>According to previous information from the court, it is alleged that Lehrer was engaged in trafficking these firearms on December 4, 2023, at Bois Cotlette in Soufriere.<\/p>\n<p>The preliminary inquiry is set for April 22, April 24, and April 25, 2025, while final disclosure into the matter is set for March 31, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Lehrer is being represented by Attorney Lennox Lawrence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Double murder accused Jonathan Lehrer, who was charged with the murder of Coulibri Ridge Eco-Resort owners Daniel Langlois and his partner Dominique Marchand\u00a0has been denied bail for trafficking firearms.
