Residents of Antigua and Barbuda took to the streets in protest Saturday to demand the death penalty for those found guilty of killing 9-year-old Chantel Crump.<\/p>\n

20-year-old Angela Mejia has been charged with Crump’s murder.<\/p>\n

The charges came just hours after the lifeless body of the young girl was discovered hidden in bushes in the Weatherills area on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

Reports indicate that Mejia allegedly abducted the child from the vicinity of Number 2 George Street in Grays Farm on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Eyewitnesses, including some of Chantel’s classmates, claim to have seen her wave goodbye from a Honda car, marking her last known moments alive as she made her way home from school.<\/p>\n

Following her arrest, Mejia directed law enforcement to the location of Chantel\u2019s body, an action that has only deepened public outrage and heightened demands for justice.<\/p>\n

The tragic circumstances surrounding this case have ignited nationwide calls for swift legal action against those involved, as the community mourns the loss of an innocent life.<\/p>\n

Protestors gathered outside the Police Headquarters, demanding justice and expressing their outrage with chants of, \u201cWe don\u2019t want life in prison. We want the death penalty.\u201d<\/p>\n

The police have charged Angela Mejia with murder after she reportedly confessed to the crime.<\/p>\n

Chantelle\u2019s body was discovered in a remote area of Weatherills following an extensive search operation, miles away from where she was abducted in Grays Farm. This devastating case has reignited discussions about the severity of punishment for such heinous acts.<\/p>\n

In response to the growing concern for child safety, Dr. Jacqui Quinn, Head of the Concerned Citizens Group, announced a new initiative: the \u201cChantel Alert.<\/p>\n

This alert system, similar to an AMBER alert, will mobilize the community immediately when a child goes missing by broadcasting alerts on electronic billboards and sending notifications via cellphone companies.<\/p>\n

Community leaders and residents are rallying for the reinstatement of the death penalty, arguing that life sentences are inadequate.<\/p>\n

The community is grappling with the impact of this incident, which marks a dark chapter, reminiscent of a similar tragedy that occurred on June 29, 2006, when Jemuel Samuel, a 10-year-old from T.N. Kirnon Primary School, was also murdered.<\/p>\n
