The US State Department has made it clear that there is no travel ban list being considered by the Trump administration as it was widely reported within the past few days.<\/p>\n
However, according to spokesperson, Tammy Bruce, there is a review to examine what will keep the US safer when it comes to the issuing of visas for those who want to visit the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, first of all, there is no list,” she said. “What people have been looking at over the last several days is not a list that exists here and is being acted upon. There is a review, as we know through the president\u2019s executive order, to look at what will help keep America safer when dealing with the issue of visas and who\u2019s allowed into the country.”<\/p>\n
The matter was first reported by the New York Times which said that a draft list of 43 countries, divided into three groups, was developed by US diplomatic and security officials.<\/p>\n
Dominica and a number of Caribbean countries were placed in a group with the color yellow which were being considered for a partial suspension of US visas if their governments \u201cdo not make efforts to address deficiencies within 60 days.\u201d If they did not comply, they could be moved onto one of the other lists.<\/p>\n
It was also reported by the Reuters news agency which actually said that it saw the draft memo of the list.<\/p>\n
The report sent shock waves across the world, including the Caribbean where speculation was rife that the countries were being targeted because of their Citizenship by Investment (CBI) programs.<\/p>\n
Antigua and Barbuda formally requested an explanation from the US via a diplomatic note while the governments of Dominica, St Lucia and St Kitts and Nevis said they were seeking further clarification.<\/p>\n
As of Thursday, March 19 there has been no reaction from the New York Times or Reuters.<\/p>\n
