Continuous reviews, recommendations, feedback, and adaptation are necessary to address emerging challenges and uphold democratic principles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Paul-Victor, one should also remember that democracy is not merely about holding elections, \u201cit is about ensuring that those elections are free, fair and reflective of the people\u2019s will.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She asserted that the fight for electoral integrity is a shared responsibility requiring commitment from government, political parties, society, and most importantly the people.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_338836\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-338836\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-338836 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Senator-Lorraine-Henderson-Reid-300x194.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Senator-Lorraine-Henderson-Reid-300x194.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Senator-Lorraine-Henderson-Reid-642x416.jpeg 642w, https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Senator-Lorraine-Henderson-Reid-768x498.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Senator-Lorraine-Henderson-Reid-640x415.jpeg 640w, https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Senator-Lorraine-Henderson-Reid.jpeg 1006w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-338836\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lorraine Henderson-Reid<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, Opposition Senator Lorraine Henderson-Reid spoke on &#8220;treating&#8221;, referring to the transportation of voters and entertainment of those voters coming into the country to vote.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMr. Speaker, if your sole purpose of coming into the country is to cast a vote and the ticket is gifted to you, this is a blaring and obvious act of treating which should not be overlooked or omitted,\u201d she argued. \u201cSo, I am saying if your sole purpose is coming into the country just to vote and you are gifted a ticket and spending money for that purpose it should be considered as treating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Henderson made it clear that she was not suggesting that Dominican citizens who live abroad should be allowed to come into the country to vote but insisted, &#8220;If you are coming for this specific reason, it is treating.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Parliamentary Representative of the Salisbury Constituency Jesma Paul-Victor strongly believes that electoral reform should be an ongoing process.
