The Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation (DSWMC) announced during a handing-over ceremony that it has received a new flatbed truck from the National Authorizing Office (NAO). Officials say that this important acquisition is expected to significantly enhance the Corporation\u2019s ongoing recycling initiatives. According to a press release by the Corporation, the truck will be” custom-fabricated” into three distinct sections to maximize its efficiency in waste recycling and collection efforts.<\/p>\n
The DSWMC stated that it has been actively promoting waste sorting and separation at the source as a fundamental strategy to improve recyclable waste collection rates across Dominica. This new vehicle will play a role in supporting this approach, enabling the efficient collection of already sorted recyclable materials.<\/p>\n
Urging the general public to actively participate in managing waste generated at their homes and commercial establishments, the organization holds that this collective effort is vital for transforming Dominica\u2019s waste management landscape. The primary goal of this new vehicle and the DSWMC\u2019s continued efforts is to enhance recycling and guide the island toward adopting a Circular Economy Approach.<\/p>\n
Recycling initiatives fundamentally depends on public participation. to be successful, so residents are required to separate waste accordingly, specifically glass bottles, cans\/tins, and plastic bottles. They are also asked to bag these items and place them out for collection only on the designated recyclable waste collection days for their communities. The Corporation continues to encourage residents to sort waste at the source and to manage their waste effectively.<\/p>\n
The DSWMC’s statement expressed sincere gratitude to the National Authorizing Office and the Government of Dominica for providing this essential vehicle. Emphasis was placed on the success recycling efforts through every member of society actively reducing, reusing, and recycling through proper sorting and storage of waste at the source.<\/p>\n
“Remember, our waste is our responsibility. Join the recycling movement. Together we can reduce the over accumulation of waste on our roadways and in our communities through recycling,” shared the statement.<\/p>\n
