Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced that two players, spinner Akeal Hosein and promising young cricketer Jyd Goolie, have encountered difficulties in joining the squad for the upcoming T20 Internationals against England and Ireland, scheduled to commence on Friday, June 6.<\/p>\n
The organization reported via press release that issues stem from new UK visa entry regulations for citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, which came into effect on April 23 and May 12, 2025. The revised rules necessitated both Hosein and Goolie to submit visa applications and attend compulsory in-person appointments.<\/p>\n
CWI\u2019s Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, provided clarified the matter:<\/p>\n
\u201cAs soon as the updated visa requirements were announced, CWI began the necessary application processes. This was only possible after Akeal returned to Trinidad, and following the confirmation of Jyd\u2019s selection to the Ireland squad,” Bascombe stated.<\/p>\n
“Akeal, who was chosen for both the England and Ireland segments of the tour, received permission to fulfill his commitments with the extended Pakistan Super League until mid-May. Jyd was called up for the Ireland series after Roston Chase was appointed Test captain on May 16. Chase was preparing to leave the UK to join the Test camp in Barbados, opening a spot in the squad. However, Jyd was unable to obtain the required visa waiver, as the transition period for Trinidad and Tobago residents had already expired,” he continued.<\/p>\n
CWI has reportedly formally sought to accelerate the visa process for Hosein and has applied for a visa waiver for Goolie. Nonetheless, these procedures are ultimately at the discretion of UK immigration authorities and are beyond CWI\u2019s direct control. The organization remains hopeful that the issue will be resolved shortly, enabling Hosein to join the squad for the remaining fixtures. Meanwhile, officials say Chase will stay with the T20 team for the duration of the series before linking up with his Test teammates ahead of the first Test against Australia in Barbados.<\/p>\n
