The OECS PEARL program hosted a rally earlier today to recognize and support students with special educational needs. Kyanna Dyer, the reigning Miss OECS 2025 and OECS PEARL Ambassador participated in the event, which began at Riverside Arch and culminated in a lively celebration at Windsor Park Sports Stadium.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Dominica News Online (DNO) at the rally, Dyer stressed the core mission of the OECS PEARL program, highlighting the importance of access to education for all learners.<\/p>\n
“Every learner succeeds,” she declared, reinforcing the belief that education is a universal right regardless of one’s abilities. “Every child is a learner, no matter how big, no matter how small. Learning never stops.”<\/p>\n
The event was filled with activities designed to bring joy and engagement to the students, including a bouncing castle, popcorn, cotton candy, snow cones, and special needs coloring books and puzzles. Dyer expressed that the initiative was more than just a celebration\u2014it was a recognition of special education students as equal learners who deserve the same opportunities as their peers.<\/p>\n
According to the Ministry of Education’s coordinator for special education, the Ministry, in collaboration with the OECS and PEARL Project, has been making strides in improving resources for special education through devices, training, and assessment tools. Today\u2019s rally reinforced the commitment to inclusive education, encouraging students to feel seen and supported within the school system.<\/p>\n
Organizers emphasized that the rally centered around the theme of\u00a0 “Breaking Barriers and Empowering Every Learner.” By bridging the gap between the community and schools, the event aimed to foster better integration for special education students and raise awareness of their capabilities.<\/p>\n
