Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said his government will leave no\u00a0stone unturned in determining the cause of a failure during construction at the Dominica Grammar School (DGS) last week where the\u00a0concrete roof of the school’s auditorium collapsed.<\/p>\n
He made the disclosure during a press conference on Monday.<\/p>\n
The area in question has been cut off from the rest of the construction site and the DGS’s grounds.\u00a0 The government is reportedly taking all the necessary corrective measures.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst and foremost, we are thankful to God that there was no injury\u2026\u201d he said. \u201c\u00a0\u00a0That said, the incident is being treated with the highest level of seriousness and urgency.\u00a0 As a government, we will leave no stone unturned in determining the cause of this failure \u00a0and taking all the necessary corrective measures.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Skerrit,\u00a0 the government has taken swift and decisive action in response to the incident.<\/p>\n
This, he said, includes the engagement of an independent structural engineer, \u201cand of course, this structural engineer will come from \u00a0St. Lucia \u00a0and he should be on island no later than Wednesday to conduct a full investigation, \u00a0a comprehensive assessment of all structures under construction at the site and the temporary suspension \u00a0of works.\u201d<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the prime minister indicated that a joint technical team from the Ministries of Education and Public Works is providing oversight and ongoing engagement with the contractors, school administration, and other stakeholders.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt’s underway to ensure safety, accountability, and transparency throughout the process,\u201d Skerrit stated. \u201c Let me reiterate that the safety of our students, teachers, and education stakeholders remains the government’s highest priority.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cWe will not compromise on quality with building, and we will ensure that safety \u00a0is respected \u00a0and adhered to.\u201d<\/p>\n
