This summer, the Old Oven Art Gallery at Fort Young Hotel proudly presents Roots, My Story to Tell<\/i><\/b>, a powerful new solo exhibition by\u00a0US-based Dominican artist Heston Francis<\/b>. Opening on July 5 <\/b>and running through\u00a0September 3, 2025<\/b>, the exhibition offers a deeply moving visual journey through\u00a0personal memory, ancestral heritage, and the enduring vibrancy of Caribbean culture.<\/p>\n

Following its debut in Roseau, the exhibition will travel to Bwa Denn at Secret Bay <\/b>in\u00a0Portsmouth from October 25 to December 29, 2025<\/b>, expanding its reach to audiences\u00a0across the island and beyond.<\/p>\n

Francis\u2019 striking collection weaves together stories of resilience, identity, and community\u00a0through rich imagery and layered textures. Drawing from his own experiences and\u00a0Dominican roots, Roots, My Story to Tell <\/i>explores Afro-Caribbean legacies, Kalinago\u00a0traditions, and colonial histories\u2014painting a heartfelt and complex portrait of the\u00a0Caribbean spirit.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis body of work is both a personal journey and a collective narrative,\u201d says Heston\u00a0Francis. \u201cThrough color, symbol, and story, I aim to honor the layers of our past while\u00a0celebrating the creativity and strength that define who we are.\u201d<\/p>\n

Visitors to the Old Oven Art Gallery will be immersed in a space that invites reflection,\u00a0recognition, and connection. With every brushstroke, Francis reclaims and reimagines\u00a0history, offering a dynamic and emotional exploration of Caribbean identity. The\u00a0exhibition is free and open to the public. The gallery opens daily from 10am – 6pm<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Heston Francis is a Dominican visual artist based in the United Kingdom whose work\u00a0explores cultural identity, heritage, and the complexities of the Caribbean experience. His\u00a0practice is rooted in storytelling, memory, and a desire to bridge the gap between\u00a0generations and geographies.<\/p>\n
