The Youth Development Division of the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture, and Community Development has announced the successful conclusion of International Youth Day celebrations held on August 12, 2025, along with a week-long series of activities commemorating the occasion. A press release from the Division stated that this year’s observance was centered around the global theme \u201cLocal Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,\u201d emphasizing the vital role of young people in shaping sustainable development.<\/p>\n

Throughout the week, says the release, efforts were made to spotlight the ingenuity, resilience, and leadership qualities of Dominica\u2019s youth, providing various platforms for showcasing their talents and fostering innovation. Notable events included:<\/p>\n

– Open Mic Concert in Marigot: An engaging evening featuring musical performances, spoken word, and artistic expressions, which highlighted the voices and creativity of local youth within the community.<\/p>\n

– Coding Camp Graduation in Roseau: Fourteen participants proudly completed the program, demonstrating their newly acquired skills by presenting games they had designed and developed themselves.<\/p>\n

– Digital Summer Camp Graduation: Nineteen young individuals successfully finished training in a range of digital skills, including Microsoft Office applications, Web Design, Basic Coding, Graphic Design, and Hardware Maintenance. These competencies aim to enhance their opportunities in education, employment, and entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n

– Summer Camp Volunteers Appreciation Day at Kalinago Barana Aute: A total of 120 youth volunteers received certificates of recognition for their dedication during the summer day camps, which positively impacted over 700 children nationwide. The volunteers were celebrated amid the cultural setting of the Kalinago Barana Aute, emphasizing community and cultural pride.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on the success of the celebrations, the Division underscored the importance of investing in youth as a means of strengthening societal foundations. The event reaffirmed that young Dominicans are already playing an important role as leaders and change-makers within their communities.<\/p>\n

“The public is encouraged to continue standing with young people beyond International Youth Day by sharing their successes, supporting their initiatives, and encouraging their participation in positive action through programs such as the Youth Division Skills Training Programme and the Dominica Youth Business Trust. When our youth rise, our nation rises with them,” concluded the release.<\/p>\n
