Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Dominica Water and Sewerage Company Limited (DOWASCO), Kimani St Jean has provided reasons for the recent water disruptions which has been affecting customers in various parts of the island.<\/p>\n
She shared during a statement that these interruptions are due to major infrastructure projects designed to upgrade and strengthen the island’s water supply systems.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Dominica Water and Sewerage Company Limited (DOWASCO)\u00a0\u00a0is currently executing several major infrastructure projects designed to upgrade and strengthen the island’s water supply systems as part of our ongoing commitment to delivering more reliable and resilient water service to all communities,\u201d she said. \u201cAmong the most significant of these is the Water Sector Strategic Development Project (or the WSSDP), which is actively underway in \u00a0Calibishie, Castle Bruce, Morne Jaune,\u00a0 Grandfond, Riviere Cyrique, and the West Coast water supply system that’s to include \u00a0Salisbury, Coulibistrie, and Morne Rachette.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to her, these projects involve extensive infrastructure work that, while necessary for long-term improvements, will result in intermittent and at times prolonged interruptions in water supply to affected areas.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe recognize the inconvenience this may cause and assure our valued customers that our teams are working diligently to minimize service disruptions,\u201d St Jean emphasized.<\/p>\n
Additionally, she said in areas\u00a0most severely affected, DOWASCO\u00a0will deploy water trucks to provide temporary relief, ensuring that residents continue to have access to water during critical phases of the works.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, St Jean stated that in addition to the WSSDP, there are other national development projects that also affect water distribution in various parts of the island.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have the Airport Development Project which impacts the Crapaud Hall Water System and contributes temporarily to outages in communities like Wesley, \u00a0Marigot, and the Kalinago territory,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n
St Jean continued, \u201c\u00a0We also have the Loubiere\u00a0to Grand Bay Road rehabilitation project,\u00a0which results from time to time in pipeline damage and has necessitated pipeline relocations along the route.\u201d<\/p>\n
