Dominican police are now the beneficiaries of equipment donated towards a pilot project for a police records management information system.<\/p>\n

The proposed pilot, which is\u00a0funded by the Government of Norway, has been co-developed and deployed by police across the region.<\/p>\n

The program is said to be actively in use in six countries at present, namely Grenada, Antigua, \u00a0Barbados, St. Kitts, \u00a0Guyana, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it is a very concrete way to express our support and our engagement alongside the police in Dominica in our efforts to support the digitalization and the streamlining of the judicial system, and supporting the further development of the national police here in Dominica as well as across the sub region,\u201d Deputy Resident Representative for the UNDP, Stephanie Ziebell said while delivering remarks at the handing over ceremony held on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\"\"She continued, \u201cSo please take this as a symbol of our partnership and our trusted engagement alongside you.\u00a0 And we hope to be able to continue to do this into the future, and to ensure that whatever engagements we have as UNDP in Dominica are synergistic with our efforts here with the police so as to help you \u00a0achieve your national priorities and goals.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0Meanwhile, Minister for National Security, Rayburn Blackmore, said the handing over of the equipment is consistent with the government of Dominica’s policy to work towards ensuring that the Dominica Police Force becomes more professional and more productive.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I’m very much elated by this project–although it’s a pilot project– [and] what it seeks to actually achieve in so far as the mandate of the police is concerned,\u201d he stated. \u201cFrom my understanding, of course, you also have not only the hardware but the software component which will allow for the application…the storing and capturing of information relative to the operations of the police in all aspects of the operation of the police, in terms of cases and in terms of reports being made. And a range of other information that is critical to allowing the police to better manage in certain circumstances to prevent the commission of crime of those aspects of information relative to the operation of the police force \u00a0is concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"Furthermore, Blackmoore believes that the police force will be more productive, quicker, and more efficient in terms of decision-making, and that the equipment will allow for the proper analysis of information collected.<\/p>\n

He went on to state that every police station on the island will be equipped with the hardware, and that the management system will be centralized.<\/p>\n
