Unstable conditions due to the approach of tropical storm Jerry will result in an increase in cloudiness with scattered showers and possible isolated thunderstorms. An increase in shower and thunderstorm activity with strong gusty winds can be expected as the day progresses as Tropical Storm Jerry nears the area. People in areas prone to flooding, landslides and falling rocks are advised to remain on alert and exercise extreme caution. Secure loose objects which could become missiles in strong winds and look out for broken branches.<\/p>\n
Seas are expected to be moderate to rough, with waves up to 8 ft along the west coast and 12 ft along the east coast during the next 24 hours as Tropical Storm Jerry approaches. A smallcraft warning and a high surf advisory are in effect for above normal seas and breaking wave action onshore. All users of the sea and people living near to or traversing coastal areas are advised to monitor conditions closely and to take action to protect life and property.<\/p>\n
At 8:00 AM, the centre of Tropical Storm Jerry was located near latitude 15.7\u00b0N and longitude 58.4\u00b0W, approximately 195 miles east of Dominica. Jerry is moving toward the west-northwest at 20 mph with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph and a minimum central pressure of 999 mb. This general motion is expected to continue today. A slower forward speed and a gradual turn toward the northwest is expected later today, followed by a northward turn by tomorrow into Saturday. On the forecast track, the centre of Jerry is expected to pass near or to the northeast of the northern Leeward Islands later today and tonight. Gradual strengthening is forecast during the next few days, and Jerry is expected to become a hurricane by late Friday or Saturday. Rainfall accumulation in excess of 2 to 4 inches, accompanied by gusty winds, is expected across Dominica from later today and a flood watch will become necessary.
