The American Canadian School of Medicine (ACSOM) is teaming up with the RayAsta Foundation and the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica to host Stroke Awareness Day, aiming to bring vital awareness to the issue on the island.<\/p>\n
A RayAsta statement specified that the event will take place on Saturday, October 11, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the ACSOM campus located on Ross Boulevard, Picard, Portsmouth.<\/p>\n
Highlighting the importance of the initiative, Dr. Sofiia Kozyreva, a rehabilitation specialist and faculty member at ACSOM, stated, \u201cStroke is one of the leading causes of disability and death.\u201d<\/p>\n
She emphasized that increasing awareness about risk factors can play a crucial role in prevention, and that early detection coupled with prompt medical intervention can greatly improve patient outcomes.<\/p>\n
Dr. Kozyreva underscored that education on prevention measures\u2014such as controlling blood pressure, managing diabetes, maintaining a healthy diet, and avoiding smoking\u2014is essential in decreasing stroke risks.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome of these risk factors can even be screened for right at our event,\u201d she added, highlighting the convenience and importance of early screening opportunities.<\/p>\n
This awareness day is reportedly part of ACSOM\u2019s broader efforts to promote community health education and proactive disease prevention within Dominica. The RayAsta Foundation shared that it is pleased to partner in this endeavor, aligning with its mission to empower communities through health awareness and education.<\/p>\n
The event will serve to inform attendees about stroke prevention, recognition, and rehabilitation, while providing free health screenings and educational activities. Available screenings will include blood pressure, blood sugar levels, BMI, waist circumference, cardiovascular risk assessments, as well as cognitive and reflex testing.<\/p>\n
In addition to screenings, organizers said that the participants will have the opportunty to engage in interactive sessions covering topics such as stroke anatomy, risk factors, lifestyle modifications, preventive strategies, rehabilitation options, and resources available for family caregivers.<\/p>\n
The day will also feature games, refreshments, and opportunities to meet students and faculty from ACSOM, fostering community engagement and learning.<\/p>\n
