Unstable conditions due to the presence of tropical storm Jerry will continue to result in an increase in increased cloudiness with scattered showers and possible isolated thunderstorms. An increase in shower and thunderstorm activity with strong gusty winds can be expected tonight into tomorrow as Tropical Storm Jerry moves near the area. People in areas prone to flooding, landslides and falling rocks are advised to remain on alert and exercise extreme caution. Secure loose objects which could become missiles in strong winds and look out for broken branches.<\/p>\n
Seas are expected to be moderate to rough, with waves up to 8 ft along the west coast and 12 ft along the east coast during the next 24 hours as Tropical Storm Jerry moves near the islands. A small craft warning and a high surf advisory are in effect for above normal seas and breaking wave action onshore. All users of the sea and people living near to or traversing coastal areas are advised to monitor conditions closely and to take action to protect life and property.<\/p>\n
At 5 PM, the centre of Tropical Storm Jerry was located near latitude 17.3\u00b0N and longitude 60.6\u00b0W, approximately 140 miles northeast of Dominica. Jerry is moving toward the west-northwest at 18 mph with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph and a minimum central pressure of 999 mb. This general motion is expected to continue into tonight. A slower forward speed and a gradual turn toward the northwest is expected later tonight, followed by a northward turn by tomorrow into Saturday. The centre of Jerry is now passing near the northern Leeward Islands. Gradual strengthening is forecast during the next few days, and Jerry is expected to become a hurricane by late Friday or Saturday. Rainfall accumulation of 2 to 4 inches, accompanied by gusty winds, is expected across Dominica from tonight into tomorrow. A flood watch is in effect from 2 pm toda to 12 noon tomorrowy, with an upgrade to a flood warning possible by this evening, if conditions warrant.
