On Tuesday, October 14, Prime Minister Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit is scheduled to introduce a motion in Parliament seeking approval to bestow the Dominica Award of Honour (D.A.H.), the nation’s highest accolade, upon the late Prime Ministers Roosevelt \u201cRosie\u201d Douglas and Pierre Charles.<\/p>\n

The motion pays tribute to the remarkable national service and leadership demonstrated by both former leaders, whose efforts significantly contributed to the country’s development and inspired citizens through their commitment to social justice, education, and community progress, as outlined in a media release from the Office of the Prime Minister.<\/p>\n

\u201cRosie Douglas and Pierre Charles led Dominica with vision and courage,\u201d Prime Minister Skerrit remarked prior to the parliamentary session.\u201cThis is a moment for the nation to honour two leaders who gave their all to our people. Their example continues to inspire our spirit of resilience and our collective pursuit of a stronger, more united Dominica.\u201d<\/p>\n

OPM reported that the awards will be awarded posthumously during the formal commemoration of the country\u2019s 47th independence anniversary, scheduled for November 3.<\/p>\n

Roosevelt \u201cRosie\u201d Douglas became Prime Minister in February 2000, serving until his sudden death on October 1 of the same year. Following his passing, Pierre Charles assumed the role of Prime Minister on October 3, 2000, and remained in office until his death on January 6, 2004.<\/p>\n
