Police receive new vehicles<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Government of Dominica has handed over six new vehicles to the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) in order to strengthen law enforcement and community patrols.<\/p>\n

Four will be deployed to Salisbury, Salybia, Pointe Michel and La Plaine to ensure faster response times and more efficient service to the public.<\/p>\n

\u00a0These vehicles were a donation from one of Dominica\u2019s economic citizens based on a request from Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.<\/p>\n

They were presented during a handing over ceremony held on the grounds of the Police Headquarters on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs\u00a0you know, we gave a commitment for 10, six have been delivered.\u00a0\u00a0The 4 others\u00a0are on the water\u2026,\u201d Skerrit said.\u00a0\u201cThis is part of our efforts to ensure that the police have the resources that it needs to carry out this mandate and of course access to transportation\u00a0is key in this.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to him, policing 20-25 years ago is completely different, noting that there are more communities to cover.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe record will show that as Prime Minister of this country, I have always \u00a0sought to provide the police with all the support required \u00a0and to ensure that the police, as far as practically possible, has the resources to carry out its mandate,\u201d Skerrit stated.<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cAnd to rest assured that you have my continued support.\u00a0The\u00a0Security of this state is very\u00a0important\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Skerrit added, \u201c\u00a0\u00a0I think the police service is in a much better position now than it was 25 years ago or 20 years ago or 10 years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the meantime, Minister for National Security Rayburn Blackmoore said the police department needs vehicles.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Chief of Police made a request for vehicles and I went to the Prime Minister and he said to me I will get the vehicles for allu, just give me the specs,\u201dhe revealed. \u201cThe vehicles\u00a0you are seeing out there were built from scratch\u00a0and to the specification provided by the police. So it was not imposed on the police by the Prime Minister or the Minister. That is what you asked for.\u201d<\/p>\n

Blackmoore said further that the Prime Minister’s presence there is a demonstration of the support of the government, and so the outstations that are without vehicles, the most critical ones received their vehicles on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u00a0are all marked already, very quickly \u00a0and\u00a0I’m hoping that can be manifested when\u00a0reports are\u00a0that the reports can be responded to in quick time.<\/p>\n
