Acting Police Chief Lincoln Corbette has\u00a0announced that a citizen of Dominica has handed over nine firearms to a police officer.<\/p>\n
He made the announcement during a press conference held recently.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201cI am very pleased to report that a citizen of Dominica handed [them] over to Sergeant Yankey.\u00a0 Nine firearms including rifles, pistols, and revolvers,\u201d he revealed. \u201cAnd 216 rounds of ammunition.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sergeant Yankey works at the St Joseph station.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am extremely proud of that officer,\u201d Corbette stated. \u201cAnd if you know the gentleman well, he is very meticulous, \u00a0professional\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
Furthermore, he said the police announced the largest drug bust in Dominica\u2019s history, of over 46 million dollars worth of cocaine.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think that might be the biggest\u00a0haul ever in Dominica,\u201d he\u00a0said, \u201cI remember\u00a0in 1981, 1982,\u00a0thereabout we\u00a0had a seizure of about 3,000 pounds of cocaine.\u00a0We\u2019ve\u00a0dwarfed that.\u201d<\/p>\n
He continued, \u201cSo we seized 1,730 kilos of cocaine with a street value estimated at EC$46.764 million. The largest haul ever in Dominica.\u201d<\/p>\n
Corbette congratulated the police officers who were part of\u00a0 \u2018Operation Clean Street\u2019.<\/p>\n
Launched in late September 2025,\u00a0the\u00a0Regional Security System (RSS)\u00a0and the\u00a0Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF)\u00a0implemented\u00a0\u201cOperation Clean Street\u201d,\u00a0a sweeping regional crackdown on illegal firearms, narcotics, and violent crime.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is 46 million dollars that will not be in the hands of the criminals to cause damage and danger to our citizens,\u201d he remarked. \u201cCocaine is a very dangerous substance.\u201d<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the Acting Police Chief revealed that 24 arrests were made, and a large amount of cash and firearms were seized as a result of \u2018Operation Clean Street\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have arrested 19 males and five females in this operation, and they have been charged for various offences. During the exercise, we\u2019ve seized in excess of US$10,000, 800 Bajan dollars, 400 Euros and EC$30,507,\u201d he revealed. \u201cWe seized and recovered two shotguns, one submachine gun, one nine millimetre Taurus pistol, seven air rifles, two imitation Glock pistols, one imitation rifle.\u201d<\/p>\n He mentioned further that several rounds of ammunition were also seized.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Acting Police Chief Lincoln Corbette has\u00a0announced that a citizen of Dominica has handed over nine firearms to a police officer.
