The Disaster Management Office recently hosted its second annual Public Speaking Contest focused on Disaster Risk Management, marking a notable success and leaving a meaningful impact. The event was held on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the Office of Disaster Management\u2019s venue, shared a media release.<\/p>\n

In the statement, ODM expressed sincere thanks to all the schools that participated, along with their committed educators and encouraging parents, for helping to make this occasion memorable. Gratitude is also extended to the sponsors whose generosity made the event possible: Springfield Trading Ltd., H.H.V. Whitchurch, and Do It Center.<\/p>\n

The participating students included:
\n– Osa-Marie Hunter from Convent High School
\n– Niola Alleyne from Wesley High School
\n– Kherna Stevens from Northeast Comprehensive School
\n– Kaelan Matthew from St. Mary\u2019s Academy
\n– Tamar Winston from Dominica Grammar School<\/p>\n

The competition results are as follows:
\n– First Place: Tamar Winston from Dominica Grammar School
\n– Second Place: Kaelan Matthew from St. Mary\u2019s Academy
\n– Third Place: Kherna Stevens from Northeast Comprehensive School<\/p>\n

Before the event commenced, Minister of National Security Rayburn Blackmoore reportedly spoke to the students, praising them for taking the \u201cbold step\u201d of engaging in research and participating in the competition. He also encouraged them to remain vigilant and continue to serve as \u201cwatchdogs of the environment.\u201d<\/p>\n

“Congratulations to all the students for their outstanding presentations and continued commitment to building a culture of disaster resilience!” stated the ODM.<\/p>\n
