Today, Dominica has convened the fifth edition of its National Climate Outlook Forum at the Prevost Cinemall, bringing together key stakeholders to address pressing climate-related issues. The event is centered around the theme: “Safeguarding Health and Lives against Dust and Climate Impacts,” emphasizing the importance of resilience and proactive measures in the face of environmental challenges, outlined a press release.<\/p>\n

According to the release, a primary focus of the forum is the impact of Saharan dust and various pollutants on public health, highlighting the need for strategies to mitigate their adverse effects. Discussions include a comprehensive review of the upcoming 2025 wet and hurricane season, providing valuable insights for preparedness and response planning. Additionally, participants will be presented with the forecast for the 2025\u20132026 dry season, designed to aid in strategic planning and resource allocation.<\/p>\n

Encouraging the sharing of ideas and best practices to reduce health vulnerabilities linked to climate phenomena, the forum offers a platform for fostering collaboration among sectors.<\/p>\n

Through a series of presentations, dialogues, and joint planning efforts, organizers say attendees aim to develop practical solutions that can help minimize health risks associated with dust, pollutants, and climate variability, thereby enhancing community resilience.<\/p>\n

The opening ceremony included remarks from Mrs. Vernie Marcellin Honoroe from the Dominica Meteorological Services welcomed participants, while Mr. Adrian Thomas, Chief of Applied Meteorology and Climatology at the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH) in Barbados, addressed the gathering. Mr. Samuel Carrette, the National Resilience Coordinator from the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience, and Social Security, also shared insights. Representing the health sector, Hon. Kent Edwards, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Social Services, delivered remarks, along with Permanent Secretary Jo-Anne Commodore from the Ministry of National Security and Legal Affairs.<\/p>\n
