Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that the first phase of a 4 million-dollar jetty in Anse De Mai is nearing completion.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s about 4 million-dollars, and it is in the first phase, and we look forward to that first phase being completed,\u201d he said while leading a recent tour of the area.\u00a0 \u201cOnce that is done, we move to the customs and immigration officers to enhance the living conditions and the operating facilities of the customs and immigration.\u201d<\/p>\n
Skerrit thanked the fishermen and the communities of Anse De Mai and Bense for their patience and understanding and for working with the Government of Dominica to achieve this milestone.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to recognize the advocacy of both the current Parl Rep and the former Parl Rep\u2026\u201d the PM stated. \u201cIt is happening now, and I think everybody is happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Parliamentary Representative of the Paix Bouche Constituency, Lakeyia Joseph, said this area is an official port of entry as well as a fishing community of Ans De Mai and Anse Soldat, from Portsmouth to the Kalinago Territory.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe fishermen and hucksters, users of the port, come in and out everyday, and we have a very good relationship with the French communities, and we are very happy to see the construction of this jetty,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been decades since we have been advocating for this, and I came in as a young parliamentarian,\u201d Joseph stated.<\/p>\n
She continued, \u201cWhen I spoke to \u00a0my community members, my constituency, they told me that our main priority is the construction of this port and we can finally say today that it is becoming a reality.\u201d<\/p>\n
Joseph described the construction as very good quality work.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are grateful to the Government of Dominica and our benefactors and to everyone who has come on board to support this project, to assist us in any way,\u201d she asserted. \u201cI really want to say a big thank you to the community of Anse De Mai, Anse Soldat and Bense because they have been the champions behind this piece of infrastructure, and I was the vessel passing on their message and doing the work that is necessary to bring us to this point.\u201d<\/p>\n
