After a hiatus of seven years, the Sewenal Festival is set to return to Atkinson Village on December 21, 2025, with backing from the Government of Dominica. This revival marks a significant moment for the community and the island\u2019s cultural landscape, stated a Ministry of Environment press release.<\/p>\n

It was also revealed that the festival’s comeback was made possible through a contribution of $30,000, presented via a cheque by Honourable Cozier Frederick, the Parliamentary Representative for the Salybia Constituency. He delivered the funds on behalf of Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit. The official handover took place in the presence of the Chairperson of the Atkinson Village Council.<\/p>\n

Rooted deeply in Dominican Christmas customs and influenced by the enduring traditions of the Kalinago people, the Sewenal Festival promises an engaging lineup of performances,\u00a0 according to organizers. They add that attendees can look forward to vibrant displays from Jing Ping bands originating from various parts of the island. Additionally, high-energy acts from Swinging Stars and Signal Band will add to the festivities.<\/p>\n

During the cheque presentation, Hon. Cozier Frederick reportedly emphasized the government\u2019s ongoing dedication to fostering community festivals, highlighting their importance as avenues for cultural preservation, economic growth, and social unity. The release further said that he remarked that the festival\u2019s return after seven years demonstrates the resilience and strength of local traditions.<\/p>\n

The Atkinson Village Council conveyed heartfelt thanks to the Government of Dominica and the Prime Minister for their prompt financial support, as per the write-up. They noted that the funds will play an important role in managing event logistics, production, and mobilization within the community.<\/p>\n
