Joy Stoute<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The upcoming Queen of Queens Regional Female Calypso Competition promises to bring together some of the Caribbean\u2019s most talented female calypsonians, with Dominica’s own Joy Stoute being amongst the notable performers.\u00a0 A press release shared that the reigning 2025 Calypso Monarch will, under her stage name “Joy”, represent her nation in Montserrat on Tuesday, December 30.<\/p>\n

This regional event, organized by the Montserrat Arts Council, is part of the island\u2019s 2025 Carnival festivities.<\/p>\n

Described in the release as “a platform for artistic excellence, cultural expression, and regional solidarity through calypso,”\u00a0 the show will emphasize artistic quality, cultural storytelling, and regional unity through the medium of calypso music. Contestants are judged based on the strength of their lyrics, musicality, stage presence, and overall performance, with each performer required to present two original compositions.<\/p>\n

Joy will take the stage with two songs: \u201cMy Quest for Love\u201d and \u201cThe Ground We Walking On.\u201d Both tracks reportedly played a significant role in earning her the national crown earlier this year and, according to the write-up, have struck a chord with audiences throughout the region.<\/p>\n

In anticipation of the event, Joy expressed her pride and confidence as she prepares to carry Dominica\u2019s flag on this prominent platform, saying,\u201cRepresenting Dominica on a regional stage is both an honour and a responsibility. Calypso has always been a voice for the people, and I am proud to carry our stories, our culture, and our flag to Montserrat.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also highlighted the importance of regional exposure for the preservation and development of calypso music, especially given the increasing difficulties faced by the art form across the Caribbean.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow more than ever, we must think of calypso beyond Dominica,\u201d she remarked.\u201cWith the many challenges facing the artform today, we risk losing a vital part of our culture. Regional representation is essential, and I am happy to have the full support of the Dominica Calypso Association,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Dominica\u2019s presence at the Queen of Queens Competition has been consistent in recent years. In 2024, Shanice Langford, known as Shanice, represented the island, continuing the nation\u2019s tradition of strong female calypso performers. In 2022, Dominica\u2019s first female monarch, Tasha \u201cTasha P\u201d Peltier, competed in Montserrat for the second time, delivering an impressive performance that earned her the position of first runner-up among nine contestants.<\/p>\n
