Dominica is one of\u00a0 38 countries whose citizens are subject to a new, unprecedented Visa Bond requirement put forth by President Donald Trump’s administration, when seeking entry into the United States.<\/p>\n

According to a U.S. State Department announcement, travelers holding a passport issued by Dominica, who are otherwise eligible for a B1\/B2 visa, must post a financial bond if instructed to do so during their visa application process.<\/p>\n

The report indicates that bond amounts vary depending on the individual case and are set at the time of the visa interview, with levels typically at USD $5,000, $10,000, or $15,000, a hefty sum for the average Dominican citizen.<\/p>\n

In addition to posting the bond, applicants are required to submit a Department of Homeland Security Form I-352, also known as the Immigration Bond form,\u00a0regardless of where the visa application is submitted or processed, says the State Department.<\/p>\n

The U.S. government emphasized that all payments must be made through its official channels to ensure security and proper processing, only after explicit instructions from a consular office.<\/p>\n

However, paying the bond does not automatically guarantee visa approval, say officials. The decision rests with the visa issuing authority, and fees paid without proper guidance or authorization will not be reimbursed.<\/p>\n

Another restriction imposed on individuals other than payment of the sum is that entry and exit from the United States is limited to specific airports, namely Boston Logan International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, and Washington Dulles International Airport.<\/p>\n

The terms of the bond, as detailed on DHS Form I-352 and on Travel.State.Gov<\/a>, include provisions for automatic cancellation and refund of the bond under certain conditions, such as timely departure from the U.S. or denial of entry at the port of entry.<\/p>\n

Conversely, breaches of the bond\u2014such as overstaying or failing to depart as authorized\u2014are reported to USCIS for further investigation, which can lead to penalties or legal action.<\/p>\n
