Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP) Dr Thomson Fontaine has sent a strong appeal to the young people in Dominica, particularly the \u201cyoung men\u201d to solve conflict in a peaceful and amicable manner.<\/p>\n

His appeal came while speaking on State-Owned Radio DBS, in reference to the number of violent crimes recorded on the island in recent times.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to make a very strong appeal to our young people, in particular to our young men, not to waste their lives away,\u201d he said. \u201cI mean, this level of violence that we are seeing is really not called for.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Dr. Fontaine, he believes that there are better ways that people can settle their differences and issues with each other.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I would really urge the young people in particular to bring in their illegal weapons and let us instead come together and talk through and work through these problems we are having,\u2019 he urged. \u201cIt is not a good thing when a country the size of Dominica has this level of violence. Too many families are impacted, too many people are impacted beyond just the people who are involved in the violence.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cSo I would really like to make a very strong appeal, I would like to add my voice to that of the many other voices out there that has been calling for our young people to just be more patience with each other, loving towards each other and let this new year be a part of something different where we can approach our issues and our differences and our problems in a different manner. There are ways to settle those differences.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Fontaine added, \u201cThey can be done in a peaceful and amicable manner. Let us come and talk, let us discuss instead of fighting each other.\u201d<\/p>\n
