{"id":355152,"date":"2026-01-14T09:30:31","date_gmt":"2026-01-14T13:30:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/?p=355152"},"modified":"2026-01-14T09:30:31","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T13:30:31","slug":"darnley-guye-honored-as-mas-domnik-2026-personality-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/homepage\/homepage-carousel\/darnley-guye-honored-as-mas-domnik-2026-personality-of-the-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Darnley Guye honored as Mas Domnik 2026 Personality of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-355153\" src=\"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Darnley-Guye-642x361.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ministry of Tourism and Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) has honoured Mr. Darnley Guye as Mas Domnik 2026 Personality of the Year for his contribution for over 50 years, from costume building to parade organization, craftsmanship, and leadership.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mr. Guye was honoured during an award ceremony held at Pottersville during the opening parade of Mas Domnik 2026 on the weekend.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI am totally grateful, and that shows that people are watching,\u201d he said shortly after receiving his award. \u201cI am thankful for that and will keep on looking and trying my best to do what I can to help,\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mr. Guye also called for more commitment to costume building.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhen you get into it, you have to stay in it,\u201d he encouraged. \u201cIt is not a thing you can come this year and leave next year. or say I am not in that this year. It is a continuous commitment, because since I [ started] I never stopped.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He continued, \u201cWhen people respond \u00a0to what you do, they show appreciation, and you get that feeling that you have to be thankful\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Mr. Guye, \u201cthe public is what brings us alive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He added, \u201cWe do the costumes, but we cannot decide, it\u2019s the public that decides how they feel about it, if it\u2019s good or if it\u2019s not good or if it should continue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Presently, Mr. Guye remains a mentor for the younger people who have an interest in costume building.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Ministry of Tourism and Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) has honoured Mr. Darnley Guye as Mas Domnik 2026 Personality of the Year for his contribution for over 50 years, from costume building to parade organization, craftsmanship, and leadership.
