Candia Carrette-George<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Chief Magistrate Candia Carrette-George has announced that, as of late 2025, the appointment of three individuals to the role of magistrate in Dominica upgrades the country’s total to eight–a full complement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe total number of magistrates now stands at eight, which represents a full complement for Dominica,\u201d Carrette-George stated.<\/p>\n

She introduced the new jurists during the opening ceremony of the New Law Year held at the State House Conference Centre this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am pleased to report that during the latter period of 2025, we saw the addition of three magistrates. Miss Marie-Louise Pierre Louis took her oath of office in October. \u00a0Miss Pierre Louis was previously attached to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and brings her experience in criminal law,\u201d Carrette- George said.<\/p>\n

According to her, Miss Pierre-Louis has been assigned primarily criminal matters.<\/p>\n

\u201cMiss Pearlisa Morvan took her oath in November. Miss Morvan joins us from the Attorney General’s chambers and will preside over case management hearings, \u00a0civil matters, and coroner’s court in addition to other case types,\u201d she explained. \u00a0\u201cMiss Kimala Alfred was sworn in as a magistrate in December. Miss Alfred was previously attached to the legal aid clinic. Miss Alfred will preside \u00a0primarily over family and criminal matters.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carrette-George welcomed each of them and extended well wishes to them as they took up their new posts in the magistracy.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, she stated that the addition of these magistrates represents a major step toward improving court efficiency and effective case management, with the main goal being the reduction of\u00a0 Dominica’s case backlog and the effective and timely disposition of matters.<\/p>\n
