The Rotary Club of Dominica recently conducted a significant handover ceremony, presenting a refurbished poultry housing facility to the 4-H Club at Grand Bay Primary School.<\/p>\n

The Club shared via press release that this event took place on Friday, January 16, 2026, and marked a meaningful milestone in local youth development efforts.<\/p>\n

The project, valued at XCD $27,000, was made possible through generous financial support from the Rotary Club of Gateshead in England and District 1030 in the UK,\u00a0 in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Dominica.<\/p>\n

As per the release, this “forms part of Rotary\u2019s ongoing commitment to youth development, food security, and practical skills training within schools and communities. In addition to the rehabilitation works, 50 broilers and 50 layers were provided to the 4-H Club to ensure the initiative begins on a strong and sustainable footing,”<\/p>\n

The upgraded coop is designed to serve as a practical learning space for students enrolled in the school\u2019s 4-H program. It offers hands-on experience in animal husbandry, helping students cultivate responsibility, teamwork, entrepreneurship, and livestock management skills.<\/p>\n

During the ceremony, Dr Jermaine Jewel Jean-Pierre, President of the Rotary Club of Dominica, highlighted the significance of empowering youth through sustainable, real-world projects.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis chicken coop is more than a structure; it is an investment in the future of our children. Through initiatives like this, Rotary seeks to equip young people with life skills, promote self-reliance, and encourage an appreciation for agriculture as a viable pathway for development,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

Grand Bay Primary School\u2019s Principal, Mr. Evans James, also expressed heartfelt appreciation to both Rotary clubs for their support.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn behalf of the staff and students of Grandbay Primary School, I extend heartfelt thanks to the Rotary Club of Dominica and the Rotary Club of Gateshead. This project will significantly enhance our 4-H programme and provide meaningful learning experiences for our students,\u201d Mr. James said.<\/p>\n

Mr. James further stressed the sustainability aspect of the project, noting that eggs produced by the hens will be sold to community members.<\/p>\n

The revenue generated will help fund the school\u2019s feeding program and cover ongoing upkeep costs, including feed and essential supplies.<\/p>\n

The handover event was attended by members of the school community, Rotary representatives, and students, which the Club says emphasizes the importance of international collaboration and community partnership in advancing education and youth empowerment.<\/p>\n
