This is according to Politico, which cited three sources familiar with the proposed plan.<\/p>\n

In response, a press release from the Cuban Consular Office indicates that the country’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Carlos Fern\u00e1ndez de Coss\u00edo, publicly condemned the recent disclosures and speculation surrounding these potential measures on Friday.<\/p>\n

He described such intentions as a “brutal assault” on a peaceful nation that poses no threat to the United States.<\/p>\n

Fern\u00e1ndez de Coss\u00edo emphasized that these proposed actions serve as undeniable proof that the economic difficulties faced by the Cuban population are primarily the result of policies crafted and enforced by Washington.<\/p>\n

The Cuban diplomat also pointed out that prominent figures like current Secretary of State Marco Rubio and former National Security Advisor John Bolton had misled President Trump in 2019, leading him to order a similar blockade. However, this move was ultimately halted by national security agencies that deemed such aggressive confrontation as unjustifiable, irresponsible, and perilous.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the article quotes one of the sources as saying that, “The effort would be justified under the 1994 LIBERTAD Act, better known as the Helms-Burton Act”.<\/p>\n

However, it also revealed that some in the Trump administration are in opposition, citing that “A total blockade of oil imports into Cuba could then spark a humanitarian crisis…”<\/p>\n
