On Thursday, January 29, the Cuban Embassy in Dominica hosted a meeting between Ambassador Miguel Fraga, representatives of the Solidarity Group with Cuba, and members of the Association of Cuban Graduates.<\/p>\n
During the gathering, Ambassador Fraga provided an update on Cuba\u2019s current circumstances, focusing on the primary economic and political hurdles the nation faces, as per a media statement from the Cuban Consulate.<\/p>\n
He emphasized the detrimental effects of the ongoing economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed against Cuba, describing it as a criminal and genocidal strategy aimed at impoverishing the population and isolating the island internationally.<\/p>\n
Reportedly, he discussion also underscored the strong historical bonds in education between Cuba and Dominica.<\/p>\n
According to the release, since 1979, Dominican youth have pursued studies in Cuba, with over 400 students graduating from Cuban universities to date. Among them, more than 120 have earned medical degrees, making substantial contributions to Cuba\u2019s healthcare system and supporting the development of the Dominican Republic.<\/p>\n
Participants concurred on the necessity of further enhancing solidarity and cooperative efforts, especially as they prepare to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. They also highlighted the upcoming centenary of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, proposing to honor these milestones by reaffirming the enduring historical ties that connect Cuba and Dominica.<\/p>\n
