Every year, couples who are married, engaged, or dating gather to observe and celebrate World Marriage Day (WMD) in Dominica, as part of Marriage and Engaged Encounter.<\/p>\n

The upcoming event, scheduled for Sunday, February 8 at 9 AM, at the St Joseph catholic Church, marks the 12th edition of this special occasion within the Diocese of Roseau.<\/p>\n

The organizers stated in a press release that WMD is dedicated to honoring husbands and wives as the cornerstone of family life\u2014the fundamental building block of society\u2014and the domestic church. They add that it highlights the enduring beauty of their commitment, sacrifices, and joy found in everyday married life.<\/p>\n

“As Married Couples gather in large numbers they are also making a bold statement that the marriage covenant between a man and a woman is God\u2019s design for marriage,” said the release. The theme for every WMD is Love One Another …… the new commandment Jesus gave to disciples in John 15:12,” said the release.<\/p>\n

During this service, couples will have the opportunity to renew their vows. The event will also recognize 12 couples, along with a priest and a marriage support group, for their contributions and milestones.<\/p>\n

Awards will be presented to the longest-married couple, exemplary couples within the parish, those celebrating significant anniversaries, and a Marriage Encounter support group that has been active for three decades.<\/p>\n

A highlight many couples anticipate each year is the dress code, which aligns with the event\u2019s color theme. Over the years, various colors such as red, yellow, pink, purple, orange, white, and blue have been used to symbolize different aspects of love and commitment.<\/p>\n

According to the release, this year\u2019s theme is \u201cShades of Green,\u201d representing hope\u2014which organizers say is a fitting tribute as the jubilee year has been extended to April. All couples are warmly invited to participate, and those unable to attend the St. Joseph celebration are encouraged to wear shades of green and share their photos on social media using the hashtag #worldmarriageday2026.<\/p>\n
