District Governor Soraya A.J. Warner-Gustave of Rotary District 7030 recently completed a fruitful official visit to the Commonwealth of Dominica, characterized by meaningful interactions, fellowship, and the reinforcement of collaborative ties with Rotary and Rotaract organizations across the island.<\/p>\n

A press release from the organization said that from January 28 to February 1, 2026, DG Soraya engaged extensively with members of the Rotary Club of Portsmouth and the Rotary Club of Dominica, emphasizing partnership, community service, and mutual growth.<\/p>\n

Her journey commenced with a visit to the Rotary Club of Portsmouth, where she participated in several impactful service projects. A central theme of her visit was the club\u2019s ongoing playground initiatives. She toured Temple SDA Primary School, which already benefits from an existing playground, and Dublanc\/Bioche Primary School, where plans are in motion to build a new playground designed to promote safe play and support children’s development. These projects aim to combat childhood obesity by encouraging physical activity and active lifestyles among students.<\/p>\n

The district governor\u2019s visit also included a strategic meeting at Secret Bay, a corporate sponsor of the club, to discuss ongoing support and sustainability efforts. In line with Rotary\u2019s environmental objectives, a tree-planting exercise was conducted along the Indian River, highlighting the club\u2019s dedication to ecological conservation.<\/p>\n

According to the release, a notable moment during her visit was the unveiling of a Peace Pole at Portsmouth Secondary School\u2014the first such project undertaken by the club. During the unveiling ceremony, DG Soraya delivered an inspiring address to students and staff, emphasizing the importance of peace, unity, and the vital role youth play in fostering harmony within their communities.<\/p>\n

Later, her focus shifted to the Rotary Club of Dominica, where she participated in activities aligned with Rotary\u2019s core principles and service priorities. She held separate engagements with the Rotaract Club of Roseau and the Interact Clubs of Dominica State College and Dominica Grammar School. She praised the young Rotarians and Interactors for their enthusiasm, creativity, and dedication to service, encouraging them to continue developing their leadership skills and become agents of positive change.<\/p>\n

During her visit, she also toured the Dominica Community High School to see the new Snack Benches Project. This initiative provides designated seating areas for students during snack and lunch breaks, promoting comfort and inclusivity, and exemplifying Rotary\u2019s commitment to youth development and community well-being.<\/p>\n

Reportedly, a significant event during her visit with the Roseau Rotary Club was her participation in a formal handover ceremony for completed improvements at the Acute Psychiatric Unit (APU). In her remarks, she underscored Rotary\u2019s dedication to advancing healthcare infrastructure and mental health services, commending the collaborative efforts that made the project possible.<\/p>\n
