Fire Chief Wayne Letang<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Chief Fire Officer Wayne Letang\u00a0said the Dominica Fire and Ambulance Services is committed to ensuring that all carnival events happen in a safe environment.<\/p>\n

He was speaking during a pre-Carnival press conference organized by the\u00a0 Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force recently.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe continue to monitor all the events. We have been working with the Dominica Festival Committee and all other organizing committees around the island in ensuring that the events happen without any incident,\u201d he stated. \u201cWe would have liked that no incident happen, but sometimes they do.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Letang, the Fire and Ambulance Services will continue to maintain its readiness to respond to any such incident, \u201cand as we always do, we prepare for the worst-case scenarios.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough, like I said, we wish it would never happen, but sometimes it does, within the City of Roseau on Carnival Monday and Tuesday,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n

Moreover, Letang pointed out that the Portsmouth station and the Roseau station will be monitoring those carnival events.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will be having continuous walkthrough throughout the carnival routes,\u201d he revealed.\u00a0\u201cWe will ensure that \u00a0all persons have a safe carnival, enjoying the time \u00a0in \u00a0peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

He mentioned that during events such as carnival and other festivities, people are in a party mood, and there is always an increase in road traffic.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to encourage motorists and other road users to have [parties] in a safe mode,\u201d Letang encouraged. \u201cMotorists, we therefore want to encourage you, drinking alcohol and driving is not a good combination.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cAlways ensure \u00a0that \u00a0you rest sufficiently and \u00a0for groups \u00a0ensure that you have a designated chauffeur\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Letang added, \u201cFor persons who were entering the carnival routes, please ensure that you observe all the traffic signs and the police regulations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Patrons are also advised that they should not venture\u00a0into a restricted area.<\/p>\n

\u201cFollow the designated route according to the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force,\u201d he advised. \u201cFor \u00a0road users, carnival revelers, ensure that you are clear of the roadways at all times where it is not the designated carnival route.\u201d<\/p>\n

And to those who plan to consume alcoholic beverages, Letang urges them to keep themselves in a safe mode all the time, as drunkenness will inhibit his\/her judgement and decision.<\/p>\n

Letang indicated that the Dominican Fire and Ambulance Services will continue vigilance throughout the island at all eight stations.<\/p>\n
