The University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus (UWI FIC) engaged in a series of discussions with representatives from T.A. Marryshow Community College (TAMCC) in Grenada on March 11 and 12, aiming to enhance cooperative efforts that will broaden educational pathways for students across Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique.<\/p>\n

A UWI FIC press release shared that the delegation from the university was headed by Campus Principal Professor Justin Robinson. Other key members included Jenifer Hughes, Assistant Registrar for Admissions and Graduate Studies; Dr. Kamecia Blake, Coordinator of the BSc Criminology and Criminal Justice program; Samantha Marshall, Coordinator in the School of Health and Behavioural Sciences; and Shavar Maloney, Manager of Marketing, Communication, and Commercialisation.<\/p>\n

Representing TAMCC was Principal Andrew Abraham, accompanied by Dr. Philomena Cato and Moricia Japal-Ledlow, who is responsible for Access and Professional Studies.<\/p>\n

It is reported that during their meetings, the focus was on fostering stronger institutional ties and creating clearer academic pathways for TAMCC students wishing to transfer into UWI FIC programs. Discussions specifically covered exemption policies and the development of 2+2 articulation agreements, which would allow students to complete an associate degree at TAMCC and seamlessly transition to UWI FIC to earn their bachelor\u2019s degree.<\/p>\n

At the conclusion of these deliberations, both institutions agreed to initiate negotiations towards formalizing their collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding.<\/p>\n

Professor Justin Robinson, Principal of UWI FIC, underscored the significance of this partnership, stating, “Our partnership with TAMCC represents our commitment to working with important partners to create pathways for students in the OECS to access higher education. By building these bridges between institutions, we are ensuring that more students can pursue advanced degrees without unnecessary barriers, ultimately strengthening the human capital of our countries and the sub-region.”<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Principal Abraham highlighted the local benefits of such educational pathways, noting, “We are committed to ensuring access for students of TAMCC into programmes that will equip them to help take Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique forward,” Abraham said.<\/p>\n

He continued, “This partnership will open doors for our young people to gain the qualifications and skills needed to drive development across our nation as well as position themselves in this globally competitive environment.”<\/p>\n

This collaborative effort aligns with what UWI FIC defines as its overarching goal to broaden access to quality higher education throughout the Eastern Caribbean, supporting the development objectives of OECS member states.<\/p>\n
