Roseau, Dominica, April 13, 2026 \u2013 The Government of Canada is inviting eligible organizations to submit project proposals under the 2026\u20132027 Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).<\/p>\n

The CFLI is a program designed to support small-scale, high-impact projects in Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines which align with Global Affairs Canada\u2019s thematic priority areas for engagement. The CFLI also serves to support positive bilateral relations between Canada and recipient countries and their civil societies, by deepening contacts and supporting local endeavours.<\/p>\n

The majority of CFLI funding is to be directed toward local civil society organizations (including non- governmental organizations) and other institutions working at the local level. Other entities, such as international, intergovernmental, multilateral and regional organizations may be eligible for funding, provided they are working with local partners and on local projects that are consistent with the objectives of the CFLI. Similarly, municipal, regional government institutions may receive funding, provided that their projects are essentially local in nature. The CFLI is always looking to fund innovative projects that deliver measurable results.<\/p>\n

Eligible recipients include:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Local non-governmental, community and not-for-profit organizations,
\n\u2022 Local academic institutions working on local projects,
\n\u2022 International non-governmental organizations working on local development activities,
\n\u2022 Intergovernmental, multilateral and regional institutions, organizations and agencies working on local development activities,
\n\u2022 Municipal, regional or national government institutions or agencies of the recipient country working on
\nlocal projects, and<\/p>\n

The average CFLI contribution is $30,000 to $60,000 Canadian Dollars (CAD$100,000 is the maximum allocation amount for a project eligible under CFLI.<\/p>\n

All projects must align with at least one (1) of the following thematic priorities:
\no Peace and Security
\n\u25aa Example Areas: Community-based Crime Prevention and Social Cohesion (including resilience building
\nfor at-risk youth); Organized Crime Prevention; Anti-Trafficking in Persons; Cybersecurity and
\nCybercrime Prevention; Maritime and Environmental Security.
\no Growth that Works for Everyone
\n\u25aa Example Areas: Resilient Livelihoods for Women, Youth, Vulnerable Populations and At-Risk Persons;
\nDigital and Green Skills for Inclusive Income Generation; Strengthening Financial Resilience and Financial Inclusion; Building Green and Tech-Driven Enterprises and Expanding Access to Global Markets.
\nProject costs eligible for CFLI funding include administrative and operating costs specifically related to the project, training and capacity building expenditures, and research-related costs. CFLI cannot fund core funding or recurrent costs of an organization, direct fiscal support to a government, nor revolving funds.<\/p>\n

All projects will be required to be completed between the date of signature of the Contribution Agreement and February 26, 2027, for single-year project or February 25, 2028, for a two-year project. Projects spanning 2 fiscal years may be permitted depending on the project objectives and the complexity of activities.<\/p>\n
