Over five decades of dance and music production will be showcased this month by the Waitukubuli Dance Theatre Company, celebrating the group’s origin and contributions to the arts in Dominica.<\/p>\n
\u201cRHYTHMS OF OUR ROOTS\u201d will feature a mix of dance styles, including gospel, afro-beats, bouyon, kadanse, and salsa.<\/p>\n
The production will feature a range of energetic dance performances from the company, including live drumming by the Paix Bouche drummers, along with musical performances by Janae Jackson, AbiYah Yisrael, Phael Lander, and Nyel Grove, per a press release from the group.<\/p>\n
Senior and junior members of the group, as well as former dancers of the company, will come together to perform the pieces, many of which have been choreographed by Artistic Director Raymond Lawrence, along with Jaylen Olivacce, Dorelle Diolen, and other senior members.<\/p>\n
Highlighting the group’s Creole dance heritage, Lawrence said the company is thankful for reaching 55 years and for the opportunities it has had to stage dance productions, teenage pageants, and regional tours.<\/p>\n
Over the years, the Waitukubuli Dance Theatre Company has received several awards, including the Golden Drum Award in 2003 and the Edward Oliver Leblanc Trophy in 1984 and 1985.<\/p>\n

The company has performed at major festivals in Dominica and has toured several Caribbean islands, including Trinidad, Barbados, Antigua, Montserrat, St. Lucia, Martinique, Guadeloupe, St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. Martin.<\/p>\n
Expressing appreciation for both past and present members, the director also thanked its sponsors, including the Dominica Lotteries Commission, OECS PEARL, ICWI, Reuben\u2019s Bakery, National Bank of Dominica, Republic Bank, AID Bank, and Luxurious Loos.<\/p>\n
The public is being encouraged to come out and support the anniversary production.<\/p>\n
The show is scheduled for\u00a0 Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 8:00 PM and Sunday, May 31, 2026, at 6:00 PM, and will be held at St. Gerard\u2019s Hall.<\/p>\n
Tickets for \u201cRHYTHMS OF OUR ROOTS\u201d are priced at $40 for the Saturday show, while Sunday tickets cost $40 for adults and $20 for children under 12.
