The Ministry of Education, Human Resource Planning, Vocational Training and National Excellence, working in partnership with the Konmit\u00e9 pou Etid Kw\u00e9y\u00f2l (KEK), is preparing to stage the 15th edition of the Kw\u00e9y\u00f2l Spelling Bee Competition.<\/p>\n

A press release from the Ministry of Education stated that the event will be held at the Alliance Fran\u00e7aise in Roseau and will bring together students from four primary schools to demonstrate their proficiency in the Kw\u00e9y\u00f2l language.<\/p>\n

Participating schools this year are Bense Primary School, Paix Bouche Primary School, Penville Primary School and St. Luke\u2019s Primary School. Students will compete for top honours in a contest designed to celebrate language skills and cultural knowledge.<\/p>\n

Education officials said that the competition forms part of ongoing efforts to encourage the use and preservation of Kw\u00e9y\u00f2l among young people while fostering a deeper appreciation for the language within Dominica\u2019s education system. Organizers also view the initiative as an important tool for promoting greater engagement with the country’s linguistic and cultural heritage.<\/p>\n

The programme will include addresses from representatives of both the Ministry of Education and KEK before the start of the competition.<\/p>\n

First launched in 2010, the Kw\u00e9y\u00f2l Spelling Bee was established to strengthen the presence of Kw\u00e9y\u00f2l in schools and encourage students to develop their language abilities. Over the past 15 years, the release said that the competition has evolved into a significant educational and cultural event, providing participants with opportunities to improve their command of the language while gaining a greater understanding of Dominica’s traditions and heritage.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Education and KEK have encouraged members of the public to support the initiative and anticipate another successful competition showcasing student achievement, cultural awareness, and excellence in the Kw\u00e9y\u00f2l language.<\/p>\n

The event is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 4, 2026.<\/p>\n
