Letang<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Counsel for the Opposition, Geoffery Letang, has promised tremendous cross-examination when the dual citizenship matter is brought before the court on September 5, this year.<\/p>\n

Letang indicated that whether or not his team would have received the passports of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerritt and Education Minister Petter St. Jean, the defendants in the case, the matter would be presented skillfully, leaving no room for doubt.<\/p>\n

The statement comes after Justice Gerthel Thom ruled that the application by the opposition, for the production and disclosure of passports and other documents of Skerritt and St. Jean, be dismissed.<\/p>\n

The court has asked the chief elections officer to produce, within seven days, the defendants\u2019 Form 13, a declaration form in which the defendants, as candidates for election, were to state to which country (s) they have allegiance.<\/p>\n

According to Letang, if the defendants stated their allegiance to another country on the forms, they would be disqualified as candidates.<\/p>\n

Letang believes that evidence can be presented proving mendaciousness, if the forms do not state that they were, at the time.<\/p>\n

Justice Thom ruled that the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court Civil Procedure Rules do not authorize the court to order the release of these documents, despite the petitioners\u2019 plea that it need not apply to petition cases.<\/p>\n
