Close to 800 new students will take part in the Dominica State College (DSC) Orientation Week from Monday, August 29 to Friday, September 2.<\/p>\nClose to 800 new students will take part in the Dominica State College (DSC) Orientation Week from Monday, August 29 to Friday, September 2.<\/p>\n
The Theme for this year\u2019s orientation week is \u201cAre you Prepared?\u201d This theme is very important as it focuses not only on the Freshmen being prepared for the challenges of college life but great emphasis is also placed on their preparedness for the challenges they will face in the hostile global environment.<\/p>\n
The special Orientation Week is geared to preparing students mentally, socially and spiritually for the high quality learning experience they will encounter at the DSC starting September, 2011.<\/p>\n
Events begin on Monday August 29, 2011 at 9:30 am with a formal opening ceremony at the St. Alphonsus Parish Hall. Highlights of this ceremony will be a feature address by the Honourable Minister of Education, Honourable Petter St. Jean and the Charge to the students by the President of the Dominica State College, Dr. Donald. C. Peters.<\/p>\n
Day Two and Three (Tuesday, August 30, 2011 & Wednesday, August 31, 2011) is set aside for registration and advising of the new students.<\/p>\n
Day Four (Thursday September 1, 2011) is Parents Day. Our statistics have shown that the majority of new students entering the Dominica State College (DSC) are high school graduates, between the ages of sixteen (16) and twenty (20) years old, most of whom are still under parental control. Therefore, the parent is an important constituent to the DSC and this explains why this year we have set aside a day for parents dubbed \u201cParents\u2019 Day\u201d. This activity is carded for at the DSC Stockfarm Campus, between the hours of 9am and 1pm. This will create an opportunity for the parents to interact with the Faculty and Management of the Dominica State College. Parents will be provided with the opportunity to know the college better and to express their concerns and expectations.<\/p>\n
Day Five (Friday, September 5, 2011) will be the freshman\u2019s Seminar, in which highly experienced and knowledgeable facilitators from within and without the DSC will lead interactive sessions to engage the new students in thinking of positive approaches to optimize their time at this new level.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Close to 800 new students will take part in the Dominica State College (DSC) Orientation Week from Monday, August 29 to Friday, September 2.
